Congratulations to NCAS alum, Jose A. “Joe” Rivas for successfully defending his Ph.D. dissertation at University of Texas- El Paso (UTEP)!! His dissertation is titled, “Dust Storms and the Dispersal of Aquatic Invertebrates in the Chihuahuan Desert Ecoregion.” He was advised by NCAS-M Faculty, Dr. Tom Gill and co-advised by Dr. Elizabeth Walsh of the UTEP Biological Sciences Department. Thanks to all of the collaborators, colleagues, mentors, and assistants who helped him along the way, and to the NOAA Cooperative Science Center in Atmospheric Sciences (NCAS) for helping him on his journey to a doctoral degree!
While working on his doctoral studies, Dr. Rivas continued to teach AP Science (environmental science and biology) at Eastwood High in El Paso. After the 2019-2020 SY he will be investigating future opportunities.
