Innovative observations for advancing climate, weather, and air quality analysis and prediction

NCAS-M seeks to support research and applications that take greater advantage of novel and traditional environmental observations, particularly those that close observational gaps in the NOAA operational networks that limit WRN forecast metrics. For instance, NCAS-M conducts field campaigns (e.g., NOAA/AEROSE, CSC/Joint Collaboration Project), surface and upper air observations from suburban (HU Beltsville campus) and urban (HU main campus) sites, as well as other in-situ measurements from NCAS-M partners. These and similar efforts provide quality observations to fill gaps in existing Earth system observing networks and help NOAA expand coverage, especially in underserved regions.
