The American Council on Education (ACE) announced that Howard University has been officially conferred a Carnegie Classification Research Activity Designation of Research 1, often referred to as “R1.” Institutions receive this designation for “very high research productivity,” according to ACE. Howard is the only institution to be both an R1 and historically Black college and university (HBCU).
