Biography

Terri Adams, Ph.D. is the Deputy Director of the NOAA Cooperative Science Center in Atmospheric Sciences & Meteorology, Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology, and Associate Dean for Research of the Graduate School at Howard University.

Dr. Adams’ research takes a multidisciplinary approach to examining issues that have both theoretical and practical implications. Her specific research interests include emergency management, policing, violence against women, and the impact of trauma and disasters on individuals and organizations. Her most recent work centers on the decision-making processes of both individuals and organizations in the face of crisis events. She is currently the principle investigator for the “Examination of Resilience and Role Conflict Among First Responders” project supported by the National Center for the Study of Preparedness and Catastrophic Event Response. She also serves as the lead investigator for the Social, Behavioral, and Economic component of the NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences at Howard University. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Adams has served as a research consultant for a number of agencies and non-profit organizations including: the Williams Institute, the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington DC, the Johns Hopkins Public Safety Leadership Program, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the Prince George’s Center for Youth and Family Research, and the Urban Institute.
