The NYS Mesonet is a statewide network of 126 environmental monitoring stations that provides weather data to emergency managers, the National Weather Service, utilities, ground and air transportation facilities, farms and other weather-sensitive businesses across New York. Each station’s data, including an image of the actual on-the-ground conditions, is sent to headquarters at UAlbany every five minutes.
At the open house, NYS Mesonet scientists showcased the network’s capabilities and explained how members of the media can best integrate it into their daily reporting, forecasting and decision-making.
