This is an opening at the Environmental Modeling Center, one of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in the National Weather Service. We’re seeking outstanding candidates with the following specialized experience, focusing on application engineering and transition to NWS Operations:
- Develop, transition, and maintain numerical model physics parameterizations and associated computer-based technologies to improve National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) environmental forecasts and services.
- Lead staff in multiple locations to prepare, coordinate with external partners, and present numerical model research and development activities.
- Oversee the consistency and transition of techniques and research to operations (R2O) of one or more numerical model algorithms for numerical forecast guidance products.
We are seeking candidates from across NOAA’s subject matter disciplines to support EMC’s role in transitioning numerical Earth System prediction systems into NWS Operations, essential for protecting life and livelihoods.
